As part of our sponsorship we attended the Westwood Kid's PMC pre-ride gathering on Wednesday .

The weather was a bit unsettled with clouds and off and on rain showers.

We set up in the gazebo in front of the senior center as you can see by the picture.

A couple hundred people came and went over the course of the evening and we were able to help several people out with flats and minor adjustments etc.

We were happy to be able to help out with such a great cause.

Best of luck to everyone who participates in the ride itself on Sunday !

Teaching An Old Dog New Tricks

So, we recently had an old dog come in looking for some upgrades and boy did it get some.

We took an old Litespeed Arenburg Special Edition and gave it a major makeover.

The frame was sent back to the factory for a strip-down and re-decaling. Once back from the factory she was hung with all new parts.

A 2009 Campy Super Record 11 kit and Bontrager Aeolus 5.o wheels gave this Old Dog a new lease on life. She shed over 3lbs. of weight while gaining a lot of speed and comfort.

Carbon wing bars, carbon stem, carbon post, carbon cages...Saweet ! She's even got the good ole Garmin Edge 305 strapped on there for good measure. This is one sweet bike.

Do you have an older bike that just needs some upgrading ? If you do we can help ! Bring that trusty set of wheels by the shop and we'll get them up to speed.

Congrats To Our Man Dave K. !

These past few days, our resident fixed gear hammerhead has been out in Reno doing battle with some of the top riders in the country at a race called the Scalleycat. This event can and has tested the mettle of many of the top riders to ever throw a leg over the top tube of a bike.

Well we just heard from Dave and after all the dust had settled he has earned himself a SECOND-PLACE standing out of 250 plus riders !! That folks is no joke .

Dave had just enough time to get off the plane, build his bike at the airport and just barely get to the starting line for the 1st day's time trial. Warmups ...We don't need no stinkin' warmups !

In the final event you must ride for 24 hours ...and no that's not a misprint. At the end of the 24 hours Dave had ridden 270 miles on his fixed gear . A man amongst men I'd say, simply outstanding. Rock on man..Rock on !!

24 hour races, hillclimbs, and time-trials...all the while partying like rock stars. Very cool and very sick indeed..I Like It .

Grats Dave !!

Trek CEO John Burke taking a pull for bike access to parks

Bicycle access to public lands and parks has been something that the International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA) has relentlessly been advocating for. Right now their focus is on changing the federal policies that regulate bike access to trails in National Parks. It looks like at least one bike industry heavyweight is chiming in strongly on this issue. Two weeks ago we received the following e-mail from Trek Bicycles CEO John Burke, which we like to share with the readers of our blog:

Today, you have the opportunity to change the world!!! Yes You!!!! The National Parks are an absolute gem and yet in most National Parks you cannot ride your bicycle. Please take 4 minutes and read the following on how you can send a note to the National Park Service to support this rule change. Thanks for your help.

The U.S. National Park Service (NPS) has proposed an important rule change that will make it easier for parks to open trails to mountain biking. IMBA has been asking the NPS to make this change since the 1990s We now enter a 60-day commentary period to make the change official. I ask that you register comments in support of the new rule. IMBA has made it easy for you to lend support by filling out an online letter.

We know that several groups are working hard to defeat this proposal. It will take thousands of comments supporting the NPS to ensure the rule is approved. Please lend your voice to the discussion today. For a more detailed outline and a white paper analysis of the proposed change go to IMBA.com or here.

Why am I asking this of you?

  1. This proposal achieves a more manageable and efficient system for adopting mountain bike trails in National Parks.
  2. Cycling in National Parks is a way to connect people with the natural world. Something you cannot do from the seat of your car.
  3. Shared-use trails have proven successful in thousands of locations, including many federally managed parks.
  4. This proposal will make history. Your children and grandchildren will read about it and enjoy the benefits for years to come.

So many people have helped get this proposal this far in the process. Now it’s your opportunity to lend a hand and make a historic difference. Please ask your family members and friends to sign the proposal as well. The more support we give, the better our change of passing the new proposal.

Let’s make history.

JB

We think it’s pretty neat to see John Burke and Trek Bikes (which also manufactures the Gary Fisher brand) sticking out their neck on this issue and continue their longstanding support for mountain bike advocacy. Let’s heed his call to action and make sure not just our streets, but also our parks and trails become more bike-friendly and for everyone to share.

Don't miss your chance to make a change !

Lance is back in the saddle, are you ?

Well gang I managed to find my way back to my keyboard after a couple months away. I had to dig it out from under all the "stuff" that accumulated over the holidays. It's funny how we all can head off in one direction when life etc. seems to want to head there. That's life as they say..

Is anyone else excited about Lance's return to the racing world? I know we are as well as most of the cycling community. His coming back has gotten many people excited about riding again as well as thinking more seriously about curing Cancer. On his recent trip to Australia Lance raised several million dollars to help fight the big "C". The government of Australia has agreed to build a cancer research center that will cost them roughly 35 million big ones. I'd say that's a very good start to the L.A.F.'s war on the disease that is slated to become the number one killer in the world by 2010.

Love him or hate him I think we all have to agree that the man has a major effect on anyone he comes in contact with. He has given millions of people world wide something that they may previously been missing....Hope. The motivation factor that he brings is unparalled nearly anywhere else that I can think of. He has even managed to motivate me to get off the couch and get the wheels turning towards getting back in race shape.

How many of you have really started thinking about riding yet this year ? Some of us are already back in the saddle again, are you ?

Get those pedals turnin' !
